Build a Team That Stays With You for Life

People are always going to be the core of the business. They’re usually also going to be one of its weakest points.

So, one of the key questions you need to constantly be asking yourself, as someone working in real estate, especially once you begin developing your team, is asking yourself, “Are my teammates happy and supported?”

That’s going to be key. Because the real estate industry rewards individuals who outperform those around them.

The real estate industry is going to reward agents that take it upon themselves to do better, by getting more listings, more transactions, more commissions.

So, while you need to be supporting the agents around you, and in your team, you also need to be aware of whether you’re still bringing them value.

Because it’s going to be very easy for an over-performing agent to turn around and say, “If I am doing so much work, and if I am having so many listings, and bringing in so many transactions, why does my broker need to keep taking such a large cut of the commissions that I’m out there earning?”

So, you have to make sure that your teammates are happy and supported — that they see the value they get from being part of your team, or being part of your brokerage. Otherwise, they’re going to start looking for other brokerages or they’re going to go out and form their own.

And that may not necessarily be a bad thing if it’s really not a good fit, but if the reason those agents leave your team, or your brokerage, is because they just didn’t feel happy, they just didn’t feel supported, they just didn’t get the value that you’re providing to them, then that’s on you. That’s a situation you could have avoided.
