If your teammates are happy & appreciate your guidance, then you shouldn’t see any of them as threats.

In real estate, each individual agent is a business unto themselves. You might be running a team, you might be running a brokerage, but you have to understand that each individual agent within that team is their own business. You have to respect that.

On the flip side, you can’t see each of them as a threat. You can’t see each of them as an individual threat that needs to be contained. But, on the other hand, you need to recognize that none of them have to be part of that team.

Even if one of your agents decides to venture out on their own, that’s a relationship that could still benefit you in the long run. It might still be possible, even after that individual leaves your team, to still have a useful connection with that individual.

There might be the opportunities for future business to be done. There might be the opportunity for referrals. That individual might be able to recommend up-&-coming agents onto your team.

Don’t ever discount the future opportunities that result from having a happy teammate leave your team.

If a teammate leaves your team & is unhappy, that’s probably going to be a threat down the road. But when you have teammates that simply just outgrow their position & their role within your team, but they leave on a happy note, then you have the opportunity there for future business.

Wouldn’t you prefer to negotiate & contract with a friend, & a former teammate, than a complete stranger & an actual competitor?

If you have a happy, supported team, when individuals outgrow their roles & their positions on that team, you will be producing a set of individuals that are not necessarily competitors, but are potential business partners down the road.
