Why Your Team Needs a Morning Huddle
A morning huddle is a fantastic way to foster communication on a team scale.
When we feel like we can open up & be vulnerable with our teammates, it makes it that much easier to feel like we’re part of the team.
The key part of the morning huddle is allowing each individual team member to talk about where they’re stuck. So, why is this valuable? Because when each individual team member explains to the entire team where they’re stuck, it gives everyone else an opportunity to offer assistance.
A huddle in football is about the next play. It’s not about the whole season. A daily huddle in business is about that day. It’s not about the week. It’s not about the quarter. It’s not about big goals. It’s about the day.
It’s an opportunity for everyone on the team to share where they’re at, what they’re doing that day, & where they’re stuck.
A morning huddle, just like a huddle in sports, should be quick. It should be very short term in focus.
You’re creating two different, great things here. One: you’re encouraging your teammates to have some vulnerability with each other. It’s counterintuitive, but when we’re vulnerable with our teammates, we begin to feel, & we get used to being vulnerable. It makes us feel like more of a part of the team.
If we feel closed off, to the point at which we can’t ever be vulnerable with our teammate, then we’ll never truly feel like part of the team.
That vulnerability & that comfort with being vulnerable with our teammates gets reinforced with the offers of assistance that we get back from our team.
If you show up to a daily huddle & you’re stuck in a certain place, & one or two of your teammates have been stuck in that place before, then the camaraderie that results from the vulnerability of letting the rest of the group know you’re stuck, but then also getting the assistance of those teammates that have been stuck in that same place too, is what really starts to foster a tight-knit team.
